Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Maasai Mara National Reserve

Your safari begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel or another agreed location in Nairobi. Travel through Kenya’s scenic countryside, with a stop at a Great Rift Valley viewpoint when conditions and timing allow.

Continue towards the Maasai Mara National Reserve, arriving in time for lunch, depending on road conditions and your departure time. After settling into your lodge or tented camp, head out for an afternoon game drive across the reserve’s expansive grasslands.

Look for elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and predators such as lions and cheetahs. Return to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay.

Meals: Lunch and dinner.

Spend a full day exploring the Maasai Mara, one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife destinations. Set out early with your professional safari guide to search for wildlife during the cooler morning hours.

Depending on the season, you may encounter large herds of wildebeest and zebras associated with the Great Migration. During the migration period, the Mara River can become a dramatic crossing point, although crossings are unpredictable and cannot be guaranteed.

Enjoy a picnic lunch in a designated area before continuing your game drive through the reserve. Watch for lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, hyenas, and numerous bird species.

Return to your camp or lodge in the evening for dinner and relaxation.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Enjoy another rewarding day in the Maasai Mara, allowing more time to explore different areas of the reserve and improve your opportunities for wildlife sightings.

After breakfast, depart for a morning game drive through the open plains, riverine forests, and wildlife-rich habitats. Your guide will help you search for the Big Five and explain the behaviour of the animals you encounter.

After lunch, continue exploring the reserve on an afternoon game drive. If travelling during the Great Migration season, your guide can check current herd movements and assess whether suitable migration-viewing areas are accessible.

Return to your accommodation for dinner and your final overnight stay in the Maasai Mara.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

After breakfast, depart the Maasai Mara and travel towards Lake Nakuru National Park. Enjoy views of Kenya’s countryside and local communities along the way. The journey takes several hours, depending on the route and road conditions.

Arrive in the Lake Nakuru area and enjoy lunch before an afternoon game drive, subject to arrival time and park access arrangements.

Lake Nakuru is known for its scenic lake, diverse birdlife, and conservation areas that support black and white rhinos. You may also encounter Rothschild’s giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, and other wildlife.

After your game drive, proceed to your lodge or hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

After breakfast, depart for Amboseli National Park. This is a long road-transfer day, usually involving travel through or near Nairobi, with the exact duration depending on traffic, road conditions, and stops.

Arrive in the Amboseli area later in the day and check in to your accommodation. If time and park-entry arrangements permit, enjoy a short afternoon game drive; otherwise, relax at the lodge and prepare for the next day’s wildlife exploration.

Amboseli is particularly famous for its large elephant herds and sweeping views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. The mountain is often clearest during the early morning and late afternoon, although visibility depends on weather conditions.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Explore Amboseli National Park on morning and afternoon game drives. Early morning offers an excellent opportunity to observe wildlife as animals become active across the plains and around seasonal wetlands.

Amboseli’s landscapes range from open grasslands to swamps and dry lake beds. These habitats attract elephants, zebras, wildebeest, buffaloes, giraffes, and a variety of bird species.

Spend time observing elephant families as they move through the park. With favourable weather, enjoy memorable views of Mount Kilimanjaro rising above the surrounding plains.

After lunch and some time to relax, head out for another game drive before returning to your accommodation for dinner and your final overnight stay.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Enjoy breakfast at your lodge before beginning the journey back to Nairobi. Depending on your departure time and the arrangements included in your package, you may have an opportunity for a brief morning game drive.

Travel through Kenya’s countryside towards Nairobi, where you will be dropped off at your hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, subject to your onward travel schedule.

Your 7 Days Kenya Great Migration Safari concludes with unforgettable memories of Kenya’s wildlife, landscapes, and iconic safari destinations.
